About Us:

Mission/Giving Statement: The mission of the Corporation for National and Community Service is to improve lives, strengthen communities and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.

Grantmaking Program Areas: Senior Corps; AmeriCorps; Social Innovation Fund; Volunteer Generation Fund

Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Senior Corps: Senior Corps connects today's over 55s with the people and organizations that need them most. The Corporation helps them become mentors, coaches or companions to people in need, or contribute their job skills and expertise to community projects and organizations.

AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps offers 75,000 opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. AmeriCorps members can tutor and mentor disadvantaged youth, fight illiteracy, improve health services, build affordable housing, teach computer skills, clean parks and streams, manage or operate after-school programs, help communities respond to disaster or build organizational capacity.

Social Innovation Fund: A powerful approach to transforming lives and communities that positions the federal government to be a catalyst for impact—mobilizing public and private resources to find and grow community-based nonprofits with evidence of strong results. An initiative enacted under the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, the SIF is a new way of doing business for the federal government that stands to yield greater impact on urgent national challenges. The Social Innovation Fund targets millions in public-private funds to expand effective solutions across three issue areas: economic opportunity, healthy futures, and youth development and school support.

Volunteer Generation Fund: A program authorized by the Serve America Act to support voluntary organizations and state service commissions in boosting the impact of volunteers in addressing critical community needs. The fund will focus investments on volunteer management practices that increase both volunteer recruitment and retention.

Type of Funding/Funding Restrictions: The Corporation for National and Community Service provides grants to national and local nonprofits, schools, government agencies, faith-based and other community organizations and groups committed to strengthening their communities through volunteering. See individual grants for eligibility and restrictions.
