Legislative Director

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

• Plan, organize, manage all aspects of legislative campaigns
• Organize non-partisan Voter Registration, Get-Out-The-Vote activities
• Maintain, develop, implement strategies for maximizing the capacity of Animal Protection Voters
• Develop, implement strategies to support enforcement of new laws, use of legislative funding

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Knowledge Requirements:
• College degree preferred, but extensive relevant experience is an adequate substitution
• At least five years relevant experience with lobbying/legislation/government relations
• At least three years relevant experience in election activity
• Computer-literate and experienced in using a variety of computer software including e-mail, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, online research
• Familiarity with New Mexico government affairs preferred

• Can plan, implement campaign strategies involving multiple stakeholders
• Strong community organizing skills, experience
• Can assess/analyze problems, identify issues, articulate potential solutions
• Can effectively, professionally communicate, work with a diverse constituency
• Excellent written, verbal, persuasive communication skills and listening skills
• Experience working with media
• Highly organized, flexible to changes in work priorities and circumstances, can multi-task
