Guardian ad Litem Services: Advocacy provides guardian ad litem and youth attorneys services to all children in state's custody who are victims of abuse and neglect in Bernalillo County, under a state contract, since 1986. The New Mexico Guardianship Project provides civil legal services to children and families. The Project obtains guardianship and adoption for children who are being raised by non-parental caregivers. Guardianship suspends parental rights and adoption terminates those rights. Adoption can provide additional medical, educational and survivorship benefits. Support services are also provided to help families obtain financial and medical services for these children. The Project also provides legal information, referral and support services to families in New Mexico.
