Mission Statement:
The Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) Title I Homeless Project shall provide the means, motivation, and encouragement needed for homeless students to reach their potential as productive members of society in an educational environment that treats all students with dignity and respect.
Programs:
The APS Homelss Project services include:
- evening tutoring at Adobe Acres, Alvarado, Hawthorne, Inez, Mountain View and Eugene Field Elementary Schools; Safe House Shelter; Van Buren, Kennedy and McKinley Middle Schools; and Del Norte, Manzano, Valley, Highland,Freedom, and West Mesa High Schools.
- educational assistants amd AmeriCorps workers supporting children at school sites.
- homeless project liaison to coordinate program components.
- elementary resource teacher to support preschool and elementary children.
- secondary resource teacher to support services for secondary level students.
- resource teacher to facilitate delivery of health/mental health services for homeless students and recruit and train community volunteers.
- resource teacher for assessment, transition, accountability, and grants.
- summer program emphasizing academic and recreational activities.
- school supplies and uniforms at registration.
- Alphabet Alley Kids preschool program.
- tuition for regular APS summer school.
