Among the many governance roles of a non-profit board, financial oversight is one of the most important responsibilities. Conducting annual audits, monitoring financial statements, and budget management are key responsibilities. As such, the ability to understand and evaluate the financial health of a non-profit organization is paramount. This workshop teaches participants how to easily analyze and evaluate an organization’s financial health through a basic understanding of financial statements and key financial ratios. Financial Statements: Learn how financial statements are created, what they mean and why the numbers differ in each statement.

Financial Ratios: Learn to calculate key financial ratios for your organization. Understand industry benchmarks and how to use this information to make informed decisions in the following areas.

  •  Fundraising Efficiency
  •  Debt Ratios
  •  Revenue Sources – Ratios and Allocation

Participants will engage in hands-on activities to help analyze the financial health of two sample companies by reviewing the financial statements, calculating and interpreting key ratios, and giving strategic recommendations based on their analysis.
