Session description:  In the wake of the #MeToo movement and the rising rates of violence in the workplace, many employers are reconsidering their policies, practices, and responsibilities. Traditional human resource responses to these issues have been largely directed at reducing liability rather than supporting employees or changing culture. The goal of this training is to help employers create a safer and more productive workplace through the use of trauma informed practices. Objectives:

  • Understand the basic definitions of harassment and interpersonal violence and how they impact the workplace.
  • Learn how updating current policies and practices can help employers prevent and respond to sexual harassment and the impact of interpersonal violence.
  • Find out what resources are available and how to access them.

Presenters:  David River, MBA, was the Deputy Director of the New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence from 2012-2017, where he directed the Coalition’s training programs in addition to other management responsibilities. He has been a mediator since 1995 and currently has a private mediation practice where he specializes in conflict resolution and negotiating agreements in the areas of employment, business, family, and elder issues. He was previously an Associate Mediator with Diane Neumann & Associates in Boston, Massachusetts and directed a court-connected mediation program with the New Mexico Center for Dispute Resolution.

Lisa Weisenfeld earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies and is an attorney licensed to practice in New Mexico and California. Since moving to Northern New Mexico Lisa has had the privilege of serving as a Tribal Prosecutor, prosecuting domestic violence offenses in tribal courts; an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting domestic violence offenses in state courts; a Victim Advocate in the Pueblo of Nambe, and most recently the Policy Coordinator at the New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She has offered trainings to professional audiences on a variety of domestic violence related topics and has been certified as a Professional Lecturer by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.
