Mission Statement:

The Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program seeks to instill a lifelong passion for music in motivated young people in the greater Albuquerque area through the pursuit of excellence in orchestral musical performance.

For 60 years, the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program (AYSP) has provided a high-quality music education and performance experience to thousands of students in the Albuquerque area. What began as a single orchestra in 1955 has steadily and sustainably grown to serve over 550 students annually. Hundreds of students in grades 4-12 audition each season for placement in one of the Program’s 12 core ensembles for strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, guitar, and chorus. All students participate in weekly rehearsals (August through April) at the AYSP facility with a professional conductor in preparation for numerous public performances each season.

The AYSP experience helps give students from all backgrounds the skills to succeed in whatever their future holds – they learn skills in critical thinking, creative problem solving, and teamwork as well as the value of self-discipline, concentration, time-management, and responsibility. In order to ensure that all motivated young musicians can enjoy these benefits regardless of family finances, AYSP offers financial aid for tuition fees to cover up to 90% of the cost of participation for more than 20% of students in the program each season.
