Santa Fe Mountain Center
Since 1979 the Santa Fe Mountain Center has been dedicated to promoting personal discovery and social change among youth, families, and groups through the use of creative learning experiences in wilderness, community, and cultural environments.
Experiential education and therapeutic adventure programs with a focus on: youth development, adult health services, and private programs. Dynamic therapeutic learning experiences that incorporate elements of adventure, challenge and interpersonal processing/reflection coupled with life skills curriculum. Experiences include cooperative games, problem solving initiatives, high ropes challenge courses, rock climbing, backpacking, and rafting. Utilizing our Experiential Adventure-Based Resiliency Model, we provide a mixture of core lesson plans and experiential methodologies that include conflict resolution, anger management, problem solving, decision-making, leadership development and social skills. These content areas have proved to be core components to fostering resiliency.
Programs include: Adventures in a Caring Community: An Anti-Bullying Initiative, an action-based, holistic approach to helping young people create more caring and compassionate classrooms and communities; Native American Emergence Program, empowering Native communities and developing Native youth leadership; Courage to Risk, providing services to victims of violent crimes;Adventure Out!, promoting adventure, health and community among gay, bisexual and transgender men,including HIV/AIDS prevention and education; the Harm Reduction program provides syringe exchange and related services across Rio Arriba county; and the New Mexico Gay Straight Alliance, supporting 37 GSAs around the state.
