Direct Action for Youth Foundation of New Mexico
The mission of the Direct Action for Youth (D.A.Y.) Foundation, a nonprofit educational organization founded in 1996, is to establish and sustain after-school tutorial programs to improve the basic reading and math skills of public elementary school students.
The D.A.Y. Tutorial Program is currently administered in 12 New Mexico public schools located in Albuquerque, Belen, Bernalillo and Rio Rancho.
In addition, the foundation administers the program in two Massachusetts schools.
Using only private funds, the foundation pays teachers at the contract stipend rate to tutor six of their own classroom students after school. The program runs for 18 weeks beginning in October with two one hour sessions held weekly. The tutorial instruction is intended to reinforce the lessons taught during the regular school day with the objective of bringing elementary students up to grade level in reading or math.
