Health officials tell us the next few weeks are critical and strongly urge all Americans, including businesses, to take drastic steps now so that we don’t become  “another Italy.”  Yet simply shutting down is not an option for some businesses, and when full or partial shutdowns are needed, the costs need to be covered.

For human resource professionals and their employers this means that all of their planning and preparation is now being put to the test in real time. 

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act ("CRA") responds to the coronavirus outbreak by providing (1) paid sick leave (2) free coronavirus testing (3) expanded unemployment benefits, and (4) additional protections for health care workers. Regulations implementing each of these new requirements will be issued shortly.

Employers need to understand how the new federal legislation will help them keep their businesses operating and their employees and the community safe.
