Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

The Board of Directors shall establish policies and perform duties prescribed by the Bylaws and such additional duties as directed by the action of the Board. The Board of Directors meet monthly and plan and attend the Annual Meeting. They serve for a three-year term and may serve two consecutive terms. Members of the Board shall be in good standing with membership in NAMI Albuquerque. Become a member here:
**Volunteers DO NOT need to have all of the skills identified in the "Skills Needed" category below. We try to identify current needs of our board and align them to potential nominees experience and interests.

NAMI-Albuquerque is an effective mental health organization dedicated to empowering and enlightening Albuquerque’s diverse population through advocacy, education and support. Volunteers are celebrated yearly and acknowledged through the type of work they contribute to the community.
NAMI-Albuquerque accomplishes its mission by:
• Providing education programs for families, individuals, providers and communities;
• Promoting innovative education and support in diverse community settings;
• Working to abolish stigma;
• Working with all branches and levels of government to promote systems change and expand resources;
• Providing safe environments to promote resilience and recovery.

Additional Requirements: 

Once contacted by the Nominating Committee, we will ask you to complete a short application and provide a resume. If your skills, experiences, and interests link with the current needs of our boards, we will contact you for an interview and help you create a bio to present to our current Board. The initial appointment would be temporary, until the whole NAMI Albuquerque membership votes on nominees in June.
